Some people just have to talk! Dad used to sometimes say to mom (God bless her), 'You don't have to say everything you know!'. - I may have inherited some of the same affliction (okay friends, I know you're laughing right now...). On the other hand, I swear I CAN keep secrets. Anyway, here's a little song I wrote for those so-afflicted...
We may not know everything just yet! Thank God we have Science to help us understand what already is. Oooh! What I said!
This is an updated version of a song I wrote back in 2018...
‘Studies have shown’ that committing acts of charity has direct health benefits for the committer (not to mention the committees!). The happiest people I know are those that make a habit of loving people without expecting anything back, or even worrying about it. I wrote this song to remind myself to follow their example.
- Full disclaimer: Any similarity in this video to recent events reported in the news is purely coincidental; no balloons were harmed during filming!
My body loves to bring up it’s arguments against trying too hard. It likes to channel a doctor I knew who’s answer to every complaint could be summed up as, ‘You need to take it easy’.
To me it came off as, ‘Better to give up than get hurt.’ What the ??? - Wrong answer! It seems to get harder to follow your dreams as you get older, but I’m resolved to continue making a fool of myself anyway (why stop now?). Everyone has something special to contribute to the world. Whatever your song is, you gotta sing it! Maybe no one will get it, but you’ve still got to. Doesn’t have to be musical (some of us can’t sing, after all…), but let it out! Here’s a little tune I call the ‘Everybody Song’.
What a wonderful gift women are! They carry us, birth us, nurture us, love us, hope for us, and are still strong for themselves and able to deal with all of life’s demands. All women are born beautiful. Some will keep their physical beauty through their life, and some will gain more inner beauty as they age. I wrote this song to celebrate women. Thanks for sharing your beautiful gift with us!
Hope appeared the other day, and this little song happened. Don't know if anyone will like it, but I'm hopeful!
I wrote this song for anyone who is feeling left out. Remember that non-conformists drag the rest of us (sometimes kicking and screaming) along to the next great thing! Celebrate your you-ness!
These days it's hard to tell who's smiling behind that mask. Especially tricky at the Grocery Store! 'For now we see as through a glass darkly' came to mind one day and generated this song.
Time spent sailing is not deducted from your time here on earth. -Pretty sure, since it always made me feel younger, and oh, so much better!
I've been missing it lately, and thinking about how it feels, so I tried to put that into a song. I think that a beautiful sailing vessel is an absolute joy. There's a freedom when you ride the wind that is almost like being reborn.
One of the greatest talents of evil is it's ability to disguise itself as Good. Lie after lie to confuse people, then appeal to their emotions and loyalties. Make sure to demonize (and perhaps invent) 'the Enemy'. Encourage division, add a charismatic leader and viola! The leader is always the sole beneficiary of the great lie. Some who are not confused will follow them out of fear or greed. Others simply want a better life, and the new leader seems to be the only alternative.
We often look evil right in the face without seeing it. In order to avoid being fooled we must suppress our anger and frustration and have faith in ourselves and each other. We must never offer it an excuse.
In the USA, we can Vote.
This song is my response to the latest personification of evil. The first step in healing is to throw off the Great Divider and forgive each other. Unite for Good.
Some people seem to be 'Born Rescuers'. When most of us tend to hesitate to put ourselves in danger they immediately leap into action. I was feeling very thankful for our First Responders the other day and how they seem to miraculously appear at the right times. We sometimes don't notice their presence until we need them, yet we owe them more than we can ever repay. I wanted to write them this little Thank You.
I love Spring! I wrote this song about it way back during my misspent youth. Thought I'd get it out and dust it off! 'In the Springtime'. -Don't want to say what year that was...
I had a friend who lived his life by embracing it. He saw promise everywhere, examined the next thing, and then jumped right in. His enthusiasm and focus made him a success at a number of careers, and he was always ready to try another one. He didn’t think of himself as brilliant, it’s just something other people noticed. That he was an individualist is certainly right on the money. When we would join him and his wife at New Year’s Eve black-tie affairs, he’d be wearing his clan’s officer’s jacket complete with kilt and official insignia (and perhaps a WWII ribbon or two), and no one would stare or question him. We used to call someone like him a ‘Mover and Shaker’. Many people in many places owe him a debt of gratitude, although most don’t know it. He never thought of it that way, he just liked people. He had faith in them, in things, in God, in Tomorrow. When he died at 93 years young, the last thing he said to the priest, with obvious delight was, ‘Who knew that death could be so much fun?’
We've all been affected by death. Some not so close, and some people we love. Sometimes it comes quickly, sometimes it takes it's own sweet time. One day all the questions sort of bubbled up in me, and I had to get it out in a song.

Cosmologists are fun at parties! For example, the theory that with every decision you make, a new Universe springs into being means (to me) that somewhere in the 'Multiverse' there must be a Reality where I did everything right! I find that comforting. I was musing about that the other day and this song popped up. Well, you never know...
This Christmas I was thinking about the Good: The season still represents love and giving to make others happy... and the Bad: The anticipation of receiving gifts can promote greed and selfishness. Meanwhile, poor old Jesus still gets blamed and used as an excuse for things he was 100% against. I do note that after 2000 years, he's still in the conversation.
With all that in mind, I thought I'd write him a Birthday song. I don't want to use him or blame him, I just want to say, 'Happy Birthday'.
It seems to me that the human brain has, at any given moment, room for either emotion or rational thought. If you try to mix the two together, emotion always wins. The current 'divide and conquer' political climate in the USA has everyone hating each other while the 'leaders' reap the benefits. This latest song is an appeal to us all to remember that we need to work together if we want to get anywhere!

Back to my Folk roots on this latest 'mini-album'. Sort of.
Love One Another is another one of those 'in my head when I woke up' songs. The message is obvious, yet needs to be said often, in my opinion.
Puttin' It Off is a song I wrote way back in the 80's one day when I was daydreaming about Retirement. Now I'm Livin' the Dream!
Dance Away The Rain/The Dancer is a medley of a song I wrote recently and a song my partner Dave Allen and I co-wrote back in 1970. This is an ode to folks who understand the freedom that The Dance brings more than the rest of us do. My late cousin David Wood gave so much to that world, especially as part of the Massari-Wood Dance Center (Google their website). We can learn much from people like him.
'Anymore' is a story about 'temporary true-love'. I think that happens sometimes, too.

When we're young we dream of that perfect love. I was thinking about that the other day and how the dreams change with the years. Sometimes dreams come true, sometimes the dreams just get better.
Big announcement the other day that your location is (still) being tracked live via your smart phone. No big surprise since your mouse movements, preferences, browsing history (etc.) are logged and 'kept secure' by private companies. It's all done for your benefit... Gosh, Thanks!
Motorcycling has helped keep me sane over the years (huh?). After a long day at work I used to jump on and ride full-throttle up the mountain from Denver until I got all the crap that people had been shoveling off of me. At Georgetown I'd relax and cruise leisurely back home. I finally have written a song about it, how it clears all the 'bad noise' out of my head. Featuring Guest Artist 'Rosey the Road King (my '04 HD). (the bike in the pic is my old 650 BSA, 'Thudburton')

I recently woke up with the beginning of this in my head. It's about something we never seem to have enough of.
This song came to me just after the 2016 election cycle. Coincidence?
These songs were my first after saying goodbye to my other (as in 'the one that paid money') career in I.T. in 2015.
'Speed of Light' was inspired by the fact that we've shown once again that our technology matures faster than we do.
I woke up one morning dreaming this 'Rise Up' song. Too bad the title had already been used! As far as I know it's a coincidence (don't remember the rest of the dream).
'Names' is about a trick that people do to each other without thinking. Names matter.
'Balance' is what we need more of. Extremism sucks. Either way.
'Hurricane' is a true story about someone I met on the beach. Names were changed to protect the innocent.
'End of the Line is one I started some years ago. Woke up and recorded the first lines and then went in to work and forgot about it. Last year I found it on my recorder and thought I'd better finish it up!
All the talk about Artificial Intelligence lately prompted me to reissue this song as a video. It looks like my prediction from 2018 described in the last verse has already come true. Wow...
